Tom DeLonge announced back in February he’d been working on a sci-fi movie called Strange Times, and with the lead roles cast, it seems to be getting closer and closer. The Strange Times franchise started with the graphic novel and is now expanding its horizons. The story follows a group of rebellious San Diego skateboarders who take it upon themselves to investigate their town’s paranormal activity. The lead roles will be played by Jack Samson (Zodiac) as Charlie Wilkens and Lizze Broadway (Bones, Chicago PD) in the role of Alli. DeLonge, who will also direct the film, said that the actors fit the roles perfectly.
“There were more than 3000 casting submissions for the film, but Jack and Lizze immediately stood out,” said DeLonge. “They’re incredibly talented actors who each bring a unique energy and perspective to the film. We were blown away watching them bring Charlie and Alli to life.”
DeLonge’s band Angels & Airwaves will score the film with original music and his multi-media company, To The Stars, will produce it. Talk about everything done “in house.”
Upon the film’s announcement, DeLonge told The Hollywood Reporter: “I grew up in Southern California as a disaffected young skateboarder who broke the occasional law or five, and I was always dreaming about the world around me, obsessively looking for the more unusual and imaginative experiences that life has to offer.”
