Tracy Bonham. You may have forgotten her, but she’s the only female solo artist to have a single top the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart until Lorde came around with “Royals” 17 years later. Let that sink in…Remember “Mother Mother”? as a younger person, and it always stuck with me. It came from the now historic album The Burdens of Being Upright which is turning 20 so to celebrate, Bonham re-recorded the entire thing as Modern Burdens (a twist on The Burdens of Being Upright) with a stripped down twist and the help of some friends: Nicole Atkins, New Pornagraphers’ Kathryn Calder, Tanya Donelly (Belly, The Breeders), Kay Hanley of Letters to Cleo, Australian pop singer Angie Hart, Rachel Yamagata, & Speedy Ortiz/Sad13’s Sadie Dupuis.
