The long-running joke was that back in the Tobey MaGuire Spider-Man days, Jake Gyllenhaal was supposed to replace him when he got injured; this never happened. Then his sister Maggie beat him to the superhero movie-role-punch when she landed her role in the Dark Knight franchise.
Well, it looks like Gyllenhaal might be joining the Spider-Man franchise after all, as the classic villain, Mysterio
in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Mysterio is Quentin Beck, a former Hollywood stuntman and special effects expert who abandoned his career to become an illusionist supervillain.
If Jake Gyllenhaal takes the deal, he’ll star alongside Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and Michael Keaton (making his return as Vulture.
The untitled film is set to be released by Marvel and Sony on July 5, 2019.
Since there obviously isn’t a trailer for the upcoming movie, enjoy the trailer to the first Spider-Man: Homecoming.
