It looks like Amazon has won the $250 million bid battle between Netflix to obtain the rights to J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord of The Rings series. The deal is a five-season commitment and it seems Amazon will need to start the production of the series within the next two years. The cost or everything? (producers, cast, special effects, etc.) Roughly $1 billion.(Couldn’t help myself here.)

This has earned the upcoming show the title of “most expensive TV series ever.” Not only that, but it looks like Peter Jackson, director of the movies, may have a role as executive producer of the series, but that has yet to be determined.
The show is expected to take place in Middle-earth preceding The Fellowship Of The Ring, and may have a spinoff series as well. Lots of mixed emotions about this all happening online…
